Costume illustrations for Hamlet Opera by Ambroise Thomas.

These are acrylic painted with watercolour pencils over them for showing texture qualities, my new favourite drawing mediums. Designs were made by fusing the Edwardian Period with today. Inspired by the contradictions of faith and morality, characters drape themselves in luxurious textiles and Sunday best—symbols of virtue masking inner corruption. Like the cross-clad gangsters of The Sopranos, they cling to religious iconography while indulging in vice, closet atheists navigating a world of deception.
“To Be Or Not To Be” is the ultimate question?
